Mzansi Sunburst

The vibrant flavours of traditional South African citrus favourite, the naartjie, play perfectly with the citrus notes in gin.

Ingredients

35ml London Dry Gin of choice

50ml Naartjie Cordial

100ml Tonic or Soda Water

15ml Pomegranate & Rooibos syrup

Method

  • Combine ingredients over plenty of ice in a tall glass
  • Stir well and then gently pour pomegranate & Rooibos syrup into the drink
  • Garnish with a wheel of fresh naartjie and a sprig of spekboom – or your favourite citrus and green gin garnish.

Naartjie Cordial

  • 1 cup freshly squeezed nartjie juice
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 50ml lemon Juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Combine ingredients in a pot and simmer until sugar is dissolved
  • Store in a clean bottle and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks

Pomegranate & Rooibos Syrup

  • 1 cup pomegranate juice (substitute cranberry if you can’t find pomegranate)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 rooibos tea bag
  • Combine ingredients in a pot and simmer and stir until sugar is dissolved
  • Simmer for a further 2 minutes to allow tea to infuse
  • Remove tea bag, store in a clean bottle and keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks
